HSBC Sevens Challenger series: Uganda announces Men and Women’s Squads

Uganda, alongside 11 other nations from across the globe will compete in the opening round of the HSBC Sevens Challenger 2025 on 1st and 2nd March in Cape town, South Africa.

The tournament will see winners from each of the four pools progress to the semis while second placed teams will play for fifth to eighth places and teams finishing third in their pools will compete for ninth to twelfth positions.

At the end of the second round which also takes place in Cape Town on 7th and 8th March, the top eight men’s and women’s teams will progress to the final tournament in Krakow, Poland on 11th and 12th April.

The four men’s and women’s teams with the most cumulative points gained across the three Challenger rounds will then qualify for the HSBC Sevens Play Off in Los Angeles, USA on 3th and 4th May.

Uganda finds itself in Pool C, facing heaveyweight Samoa and Brazil. HeadCoach Tolbert Onyango, assisted by Michael Wandera have named a squad of 12 players and four reserves

Men’s Squad: Tukei Aaron, Alex Aturinda, Allan Karuhanga, Kamiza Jones, Roy Kizito, Arnold Ocen, Karim Arinaitwe, Norbert Okeny, Allan Olweny, Daniel Otim, Patrick Okello and Malcom Okello.
Reserves: Stuart Mwayi, Aina Ndahura, Julius Opio and Thomas Opio

The women’s side is drawn into Pool C alongside Belgium and Colombia. Led by Captain Peace Lekuru, Head Coach Charles Onen, and Assistant Coach Kigongo Ssebalamu have announced Samia Ayikoru, Ayot Gloria, Grace Auma, Lydia Namabiro, Gertrude Kateesa, Mayimuna Nasozi, Janati Nandudu, Agnes Nakuya, Mastula Nambozo, Molly Akello, Rachael Mufuna and Grace Nabagala.
