Golf: Absa Bank Uganda sends 12 to Magical Kenya Open

Absa Bank Uganda has sent a contingent of 10 Amateur Ugandan golfers and two journalists to Kenya to participate in and cover the Magical Kenya Golf Open respectively.

The 10 golfers will participate in the Pro-Am leg of the annual Kenyan golf do which runs between 3rd and 6th March at the Mathaiga Golf Club in Nairobi, Kenya.

This is part of Absa Bank Uganda’s sponsorship of the Uganda Golf Open that ran between November 18th and December 4th in Entebbe.

“As a brand that has been involved in supporting the development of golf in Uganda for a substantial period of time, we understand why it’s important for golfers to meet, interact with and play alongside peers from different countries and on International stage” Absa Bank Uganda Managing Director Mumba Kalifungwa said about the sponsorship.

The Pro-Am event is a one-day affair, featuring one pro in a group with three or four amateurs. The format is typically a scramble or a shamble, with the amateurs’ handicaps counting toward the best-ball score.

The pros play from their tees and the amateurs play from up tees to make it easier.

This trip to Kenya will be special for the Ugandan golfers because the magical Kenya open is part of the internationally acclaimed European Tour, which attracts top golfers from around the world, and is played across 33 tournaments in 21 countries globally.

The Ugandan player contingent:

Collin Subika, Jenina Nasimelo, Alexandra Matsiko, Water Tukahiirwa, Patrick Kagoro, Joseph Adradi, Wendy Angudeyo, Joseph Kimani, John Muchiri and Collins Issac Talemwa

These 10 will join Ronald Rugumayo who is the only Uganda professional selected to participate at the tournament, whose costs catered for by Absa Bank Uganda.

Innocent Ndawula of Daily Monitor and Michael Nsubuga of New Vision are the two journalists that have been taken to Kenya by Absa Bank Uganda to cover the tournament.
