Golf: Absa Bank Uganda injects more money into 2022 Captain’s Bell Tournament

Absa Bank Uganda has announced an increase on its sponsorship towards the Captain’s Bell tournament at the Uganda Golf Club.

The 2022 edition will see Absa pump in UGX 57,800,000/=, which is an increase from the Thirty Millions that was pumped in last year.

The Captain’s Bell tournament is an annual event hosted by the Uganda Golf Club, where the newly elected captain hosts members in a tournament and unveils his new committee at the beginning of his term in office.

Emmanuel Wamala is the new captain while Paul Fitzgerald Nuwagaba is his Vice. These two are taking over from outgoing captain Patrick Billy and Vice Captain Dr. Alex Coutinho.

Speaking at the press conference to announce the sponsorship on Thursday morning at Uganda Golf Club, Absa Bank Uganda’s Managing Director Mumba Kalifungwa said they are proud to come on board once again with Uganda Golf Club.

“Over the years, we have enjoyed a mutually rewarding relationship with the Uganda Golf Club given our joint commitment and support towards the sport of golf in Uganda ” Kalifungwa said before adding;

“This year, we are once again coming on board as the official sponsors of the Captain’s Bell tournament which is a testament to just important this club, this tournament and this games as to us as a Bank”

“The Captain’s Bell Tournament is an integral part of both the Uganda Golf Club and the entire nation’s golf fraternity as a whole, As a bank, we are proud to come on board as part of our purpose.”

This year’s Captain’s Bell tournament will take place from 5th to 7th May 2022 at the Uganda Golf Club in Kololo. The professionals will tea off on Thursday 5th to Friday 6th, while the Amateurs will play on Saturday 7th May.

Aggrey Mutaka and Lin Li Xia were crowned as the overall male and female respective best golfers at the 2021 Captain’s Bell golf tournament while Ronald Rugumayo won the Captain’s Bell golf tourney for the paid ranks category.
