Gold 184/9 in 19.5 overs

Gold won by 1 wicket

In the inaugural Batball Maxx tournament, Gold narrowly edged Emerald by just one wicket in a thrilling finish to claim the T20 title.

The match saw an unexpected hero emerge in Zappy Maurice Bimenyimana from Rwanda, who sealed the victory for team Gold with a maximum on the penultimate ball, securing a one-wicket win.

Emerald won the toss and chose to bat first.

Their captain, Simon Ssesazi, led the charge with a solid 43 off 26 balls, while Ronald Lutaaya remained unbeaten with 46 off 32.

Despite a brief rain delay early in the second over, the match resumed and all 20 overs were completed.

Ssesazi and Lutaaya’s late push helped Emerald post a strong total of 181/7 in their allotted overs.

Yunus Sowobi was the standout bowler for Gold, claiming 3 wickets for 29 runs in 4 overs.

Gold’s captain Kenneth Waiswa also made a key contribution with the ball, taking 2 wickets.

Lutaaya finished the first innings with a six, helping Emerald set a competitive target of 181.

The final’s dramatic conclusion was one of the most thrilling finishes in recent memory.

In the chase Gold were 95/3 at the halfway mark, requiring 87 runs from the final 10 overs.

A team-wide effort saw them steadily chase down the target, with their captain, Kenneth Waiswa, playing a crucial role.

Waiswa’s quickfire knock of 32 off 13 balls, at a strike rate of 246.15, put Gold in a strong position.

Emerald’s lack of a controlling spinner, particularly in the absence of Frank Nsubuga, was felt during the middle overs.

Additionally, a missed catch of Steven Wabwose, who had scored a brisk 34 off 18 balls, proved costly for Emerald.

With the final over approaching, Emerald had a chance to run out the last batsman, Zappy Bimenyimana, but they failed to capitalize.

Bimenyimana went on to hit the winning runs, securing a historic one wicket victory for Gold in the tournament’s debut edition.
