While the Victoria Series 2025 took a brief pause, the action continued off the pitch at Gayaza High School, where Uganda and Canada’s women’s cricket teams came together to celebrate ICC Women’s Cricket Week.
In a vibrant event filled with energy and excitement, the school hosted an inspiring day dedicated to empowering young girls through cricket.
International stars, national players, and curious students shared the field in a celebration of inclusion, teamwork, and possibility.
“It’s amazing to see all of you here,”
said Leria Ondeko, Uganda Cricket’s Women’s Representative.
“This is a global celebration of girls and women in cricket—and today, it’s all about YOU.”
For many students, it was their first time picking up a bat and a ball.
But with the guidance of coaches from the Central Region Hub, Cricket Uganda’s Development Manager Davis Turinawe, and players from both teams, they quickly found their rhythm.
Encouragement was constant, and enthusiasm was everywhere.
Acting CEO Evelyn Kabongerwa Shinyekwa and other leaders shared powerful messages about women’s growing role in cricket.
“From schoolyards like this to international stadiums,”
Evely said,
“girls are showing the world what they’re made of.”
The day included fun drills, mini-matches, and personal mentoring—creating a space where girls felt seen, supported, and inspired.
Laughter echoed across the field as friendships formed and confidence grew.
Launched to boost global participation, ICC Women’s Cricket Week found the perfect home at Gayaza—where cricket became more than a sport.
It became a spark for change.
As the sun set on a field full of dreams, one message stood tall: cricket is for everyone.
And for many girls at Gayaza High School, this was just the beginning.
