FWEL: Makerere University WFC and Asubo Gafford Ladies FC are promoted to the FUFA Women’s Super League

The battle for top flight spots in the FUFA Women Elite League’s  Elizabeth and Victoria Groups is done and dusted as both She Makerere and Asubo Gafford Ladies at the Makerere University Grounds and Kiteezi C/U Playground respectively on Sunday evening.

Makerere University WFC which many know as She Makerere, beat Dynamic SS Jjezza in what was a close contest in terms of goals through out the game.

The home team took a two goal lead in the first half through a Sharon Namatovu brace. The first goal being a good tap in from close range just ten minutes into the game.

The second goal came through a penalty after Namagembe Aisha drove the ball past four defenders to put Daphne through who was later brought down in the box for the penalty which Sharon Namatovu slotted home to maintain until the end of the half.

Dynamic SS Jjezza had a chance to pull one back close to the end of first half stanza but the goalkeeper Nankya Zahara was fast enough to stop the visitors’ striker who was rushing to meet the through ball from the midfield.

Makerere University WFC came back stronger in the second half with the urge to continue creating more chances to kill off the game but Sharon was denied by the visitors goal keeper on a couple occasions.

However Dynamic SS FC didn’t also sit back, they tried to tightly press, turn and tear apart the She MAK defenders later on getting something out of their hardwork, Fatumah Nakasumba putting in her own goal after an on rushing corner.

After the visitors scoring, it looked like they were back in the game but the introduction of Josephine Ndagire changed the who picture as she added more energy in the midfield to help the team win the game.

In the latter stages of the game after a through ball from Sharon, pacy forward Winnie Babirye scored the hosts third to put the icing on the cake.

The result meant that Makerere University WFC finished the league Unbeaten on top of the Elizabeth group with 30 points in 12 games[9 wins and 3 draws] 

On the other side of the Victoria group, Asubo Gafford Ladies FC won their game 2-0 against Ajax Queens seal a place in the FUFA Women Super League Courtesy of goals from Teddy Nyafonyo and Jennifer Mirembe.

They finished the regular season with 23 points in ten games played this season.

The top team in each group earns direct promotion to the FUFA Women Super League and will play a final in order to see who wins the FUFA Women Elite league.
