Former She Cranes team manger and NIC Marketing Director Jocelyn Ucanda was declared the first ever Netball Uganda president going through Election unopposed.
This comes after Uganda Netball Federation (UNF) was dissolved to make new fresh body to run the sport’s activity in the name Netball Uganda.
With reasons earlier fronted by the Normalization committee head Moses Mwasse being the damage on UNF which included the various debts as a name and to be uniform with other Associations all over the World.
However the election was characterized by unity within the netball community, as all 12 members of the executive committee were elected unopposed, signaling a collective commitment to revitalizing the sport.
In her acceptance speech, President Ucanda outlined a compelling vision for the future of netball in Uganda.

She pledged to prioritize transparency and accountability while focusing on the development of grassroots programs, secure a permanent home for netball and provide dedicated facilities for training, competitions, and administrative functions.
This vision is crucial for nurturing talent and promoting the sport at all levels.
Ucanda also underscored the importance of unity among regional delegates
“We must work together as one to elevate the sport of netball in Uganda.” Ucanda stated
“This will be done by fostering a spirit of togetherness and love for the game, we can achieve great things.”
This call for collaboration reflects her commitment to building a strong foundation for the sport’s growth.
After the AGM, we had an media engagement with an extremely happy Mrs Ucanda Jocelyn who promised to steer Netball to another level with promise to get a new home for the sport;
“I feel fine, satisfied and empowered to steer Netball to another level” she started
“We have come to unite people, bring everyone together because sports is about friendship not creating enemies so it’s an open door for all that love Netball.”
“We all know that this sport has been in Limbo for quite some time and the beneficiaries mainly the athletes were very much affected some of them leaving the country while others have joined other sports disciplines”
“Our coming in today marks a new era in Netball Uganda. In my speech in there, I promised what I felt we could do because we discussed it as a team at it’s a realistic.”
“That is also what we will need to drive Netball in this country forward, what we presented today is not only for Jocyline Ucanda but entire executive, delegates and all those that love Netball including the Government of Uganda, World Netball.”
“All those will be supportive of our strategy because it won’t be a one man show”
“My target in the next 100 games is to bring the hearts of Ugandans together, majorly the athletes to ensure that the Leadership in place is going to respect them”
“We have plans in place for each one of them to excel in what they do best and also ensure that we professionalize the game of Netball and also have a home” she concluded
A home for the game is something that has been promised by the different Netball Presidents In Uganda like Hon. Sarah Babirye Kityo and Susan Anek.
With one in Old Kampala that was temporarily selected to be the face of the Sport’s home, the Netball lovers will continue to wait and see what Ucanda will bring.
For Moses Mwase, chairman of the Normalisation Committee, he stated the challenges his committee went through over the past one year and a half;

Normalization committee chairman, Moses Mwase
“We have just had a new elected team led by Mrs Jocelyn Ucanda to take over Netball after almost a year of handling a preparatory process” he said
Adding that; “We had a constitution approved on the 21st of September after consulting back and forth and Ofcourse getting a nod from World Netball, government and several stake holders”
“For now we have got to involve more stakeholders, have a swearing in ceremony and prepare this team out of Normalisation” he continued
“The process took long because we didn’t want to skip some necessary points. We needed to make sure that the new constitution is compliant with the National Sports Act and that took abit of time”
“We also had to explain it to stakeholders and as you see there was also a bit of push back from some members from the old crop, some members took us to Court, challenging our work” he concluded
The newly elected executive committee comprises a diverse group of individuals of have all been involved in Netball administration before just like the newly Elected President who was She Cranes Team Manager for a while.
However all the new leaders on the executive have a Club they represent in their given region.
