Free tickets will be available for the CHAN 2024 third-place playoff match at Mandela National Stadium, a gesture by the Ugandan government to celebrate the country’s successful co-hosting of the tournament and thank fans for their support.
The initiative, announced by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), will see up to 28,000 fans able to attend the match between Senegal and Sudan at no cost. The gesture is aimed at thanking Ugandans for their support throughout the historic tournament.
Thank you to all football fans that have made our homeland proud during this historic experience of hosting CHAN-2024 for the very first time. You have made the experience both memorable and successful,”
said Hon. Janet Museveni, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports.
While the tickets are free, attendees must still secure them through the official Confederation of African Football (CAF) online portal to manage stadium capacity and security. Fans need to visit the CAF ticketing website, fill in their personal details, and at checkout, use the promo code “CHAN3RD” to waive all fees. The digitally issued tickets will be clearly branded “NOT FOR SALE” but will be valid for entry.
The LOC has warned the public that no physical tickets are being distributed and cautioned against anyone attempting to sell the complimentary passes.
This year’s CHAN tournament has been a landmark event for East Africa, being co-hosted for the first time by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania. While the opening match was held in Tanzania and the final is set for Kenya, Uganda’s hosting of the playoff round adds a significant chapter to the nation’s sporting history.
The government’s decision further highlights its commitment to fostering national unity through sports and ensuring maximum fan participation in the closing stages of the prestigious continental event.
The match between Senegal and Sudan is scheduled to kick off at 6:00 PM EAT on Friday, August 29, at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole. Fans are encouraged to claim their tickets online early to secure their spot and are expected to arrive on time to avoid last-minute congestion.
