Uganda Premier League side Lugazi FC has officially unveiled seasoned tactician Francis Mugerwa as their new Co-Coach, set to work alongside the experienced Steven Bogere. The pair steps in following the departure of former head coach Olivier Mbekeka, whose contract with the club recently expired.
Mugerwa joins Lugazi FC on a one-year contract, as the club looks to bolster its technical bench in preparation for the upcoming 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season. The appointment marks another strategic step in Lugazi FC’s commitment to building a competitive, youth-focused squad.
Speaking during his unveiling, Mugerwa expressed his enthusiasm for the new role and highlighted his strong working relationship with his co-coach.
“I am grateful for this opportunity. Coach Steven Bogere is a long-term friend, and Lugazi FC is a big project – so, I could not turn down the chance of being part of it,” Mugerwa said.
“The project here impressed me. It’s full of young players, and I just love working with them.”
He emphasized a collaborative approach to coaching and a desire to deliver both results and entertaining football.
“I have come to join synergies with the rest of the coaches here. We want to build a strong team together. We want to establish a young team that can also bring positive results. We want to make Lugazi FC Stadium a difficult place for opponents, but above all, we want to do that while playing exciting football. We want our fans to enjoy, and I am sure they will like it.”
A holder of the CAF A coaching license, Mugerwa brings a wealth of experience in Ugandan football. Over the years, he has managed or worked with several top-tier clubs including Proline FC, Maroons FC, Onduparaka FC, Kitara FC, Arua Hill SC, and Bright Stars. He was also part of the coaching staff at Vipers SC during the 2020/21 season.
With Mugerwa and Bogere at the helm, Lugazi FC will hope to build momentum and leave a mark on the league this season.
