Uganda began their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign with a disappointing 0-0 draw against Kenya at the Nyayo International Stadium.

Nothing could separate the two neighbors as both countries had to settle for a poi yont in their opening group E match in Kenya on Thursday.

The two sides struggled to create enough realistic goalscoring chances throughout the game.

Uganda’s best chance of the game came midway the opening half when Milton Karisa was bought down just outside the box by Joseph Okumu but Joseph Ochaya failed to capitalize on the chance as he blasted the ball over the crossbar.

For Kenya, their best chance arrived in the 68th minute through Daniel Sakari throw-in but Michael Olunga headed the ball close to Charles Lukwago in the Cranes goal.

With the draw away from home, Uganda sit third in the group as Mali lead the group with three points after their 1-0 victory over Rwanda on Wednesday.

Uganda will now return home on Monday to face Mali in their second group game to be played at the St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
