A win today against Nigeria would have meant straight qualification into the FIBA Afrobasket finals but Uganda agonizingly gave away a 6 point halftime lead, losing 87-67 in Libya today.
The Silverbacks had a great start as it was the case in yesterday’s win against group leaders Cape Verde, outscoring Nigeria 16:12 and 18:16 in the first and second quarter respectively.
Heading into the final quarter with a 59:69 lead, Uganda only managed 8 points and the Nigerians ran riot, banging in 32 to seal their win.
Deng Geu’s 20points tally was the best in the game alongside Nigerian Caleb Agada who posted the same figures as Robinson Opong and Ishmail Wainright came in with 17 and 15 respectively for Uganda.
The Silverbacks will face hosts Libya tomorrow in their final game of this qualification window.
