Match Result
Uganda U19 152 all out in 34.3 overs
Uganda Emerging 156/6 in 27.4 overs
Uganda Emerging won by 4 wickets
In today’s match of the Easter Youth 50-over series, Uganda Emerging secured a comfortable 4-wicket victory over Uganda U19 in a low-scoring contest, with Fahad Mutagana playing a pivotal role.
Mutagana’s calculated half-century anchored his team’s chase, helping them overcome the challenge despite wickets falling at the other end.
His 62 runs off 57 balls were crucial in the victory, alongside a key contribution from Charles Musemeza, who added 36 runs.
Uganda Emerging made three changes to their lineup, replacing Jaffer Ochaya, Kiiza Jonathan, and Omara Ronald with Ahura Amos, Brighton Muganzi, and Brian Asaba following their previous win over Tanzania.
Uganda U19 won the toss and opted to bat first, but their decision proved disastrous as they posted the lowest total of the tournament, amassing just 152 runs in 34.3 overs.
Their innings faltered from the outset, with captain Gerald Olipa dismissed in the first over by Mathew Musinguzi.
Despite a 44-run partnership between Sohera Richard (42) and Nyiro Jonathan (37), the U19 team struggled to form lasting partnerships.
The Uganda Emerging bowlers, led by Fortunate Alijuna (3 wickets for 22 runs), were in superb form.
Oloka Pius, Sowobi Yunus, and Brighton Muganzi each took two wickets, choking the U19 batsmen.
In reply, Uganda Emerging chased down the target comfortably.
Although Balidawa Ali and Sohera Richard claimed wickets for Uganda U19, the chase was completed by the 28th over, with Uganda Emerging winning by 4 wickets.
These two victories strengthen Uganda Emerging’s dominance over the U19 sides, showcasing their depth and skill but helping them in preparation for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Coach Emmanuel Isaneez commented,
“We didn’t perform well today, and with such a small total on the board, it was always going to be tough.
However, the Emerging side is a quality opponent, and we will focus on addressing our mistakes as we have just two weeks left before the qualifiers in Nigeria.”
“The boys will need to stay focused and keep their heads up as they prepare to face Tanzania U19 in tomorrow’s final.”
The series concludes tomorrow with a decisive final between Tanzania U19 and Uganda U19 at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.
