Ugandan striker Fahad Aziz Bayo has won a FIFA contract dispute against Czech club MFK Vyškov, securing $55,000 (UGX 209M) in compensation. Additionally, the club now faces a transfer ban until the payment is made.

Unjust Contract Termination

The dispute arose after Vyškov terminated Bayo’s contract without just cause, citing his absence as the reason. However, the club failed to substantiate its claims, leading FIFA to rule in favor of the Ugandan forward.

Bayo joined MFK Vyškov in January 2023 on a two-year contract as a free agent, midway through the 2022/23 season. He completed that campaign and went on to play the entire 2023/24 season, during which the club failed to secure promotion to the Czech top flight.

At the end of the season, Bayo and fellow Ugandan Musa Ramathan saw their contracts terminated under questionable circumstances. During this period, the agency managing both players exited the market, and Vyškov allegedly took advantage of the situation to terminate their contracts, seemingly to make room for new signings.

A Landmark Victory for Bayo

While Bayo pursued legal action and emerged victorious, Ramathan did not file a formal complaint. This ruling marks a significant victory for the Ugandan forward, ensuring that clubs are held accountable for unfair treatment of players.

MFK Vyškov’s History with Ugandan Players

MFK Vyškov has built a reputation for providing opportunities to African players, including several Ugandan internationals such as Aziz Kayondo, Bobosi Byaruhanga, and Musa Ramathan. However, this latest case raises concerns over the club’s handling of player contracts and commitment to fair employment practices.

With this ruling, FIFA has sent a clear message about player rights and contract integrity, reinforcing the importance of clubs honoring their contractual obligations.

Fahad Bayo has previously featured for Ugandan Clubs, Proline FC and Vipers in the Uganda Premier League.

The Cranes striker moved from Bnei Sakhnin FC to join the Czech Repulic outfit.
