  • Express FC 2-2 UPDF FC

Express FC showed resilience and fighting spirit as they clawed their way back from two goals down to secure a 2-2 draw against a determined UPDF FC in a Startimes Uganda Premier League clash held at the Hamz Stadium Nakivubo.

UPDF FC came into the game on the back of a narrow 1-0 win over Maroons and carried that momentum into the first half with an impressive performance. The visitors took control early, with winger Joseph Janjali opening the scoring in the 26th minute through a stunning finish that left the Red Eagles trailing.

The soldier boys continued to dominate proceedings and were rewarded again in the 35th minute when Samuel Ssekamate doubled their lead.

Express FC looked second-best in the opening half, with UPDF’s disciplined setup and high pressing pinning them back and exposing their defensive frailties.

Trailing 2-0 at halftime, Express FC returned with renewed energy and purpose. Their persistence paid off in the 60th minute when forward Sam Ssenyonjo pulled one back, sparking hopes of a comeback among the home fans.

With momentum swinging in their favor, the Red Eagles pushed forward relentlessly. Their efforts culminated in a dramatic equalizer five minutes from time, courtesy of substitute Geoffrey Gaganga, who struck to level the scores and complete the turnaround.

The hard-fought draw sees both sides walk away with a point apiece, maintaining their respective league positions. Express FC remains in 9th place while UPDF FC sits just behind in 10th, both tied on 33 points but separated by goal difference.

Looking ahead, both teams face tough fixtures before the month ends. Express FC will be on the road to face Bright Stars while UPDF FC have a daunting visit to Kitende where they will take on table leaders Vipers SC.
