The countdown is on for one of Uganda’s most anticipated school sports events the 5th edition of the National Secondary Schools Kabaddi Championship (NSSKC) scheduled to take place from August 23rd to 28th, 2025 at Kabalega Secondary School in Masindi. This year’s tournament promises a thrilling showcase of young talent, team spirit, and raw kabaddi action.
Since its inception, the NSSKC has steadily grown into a key platform for promoting kabaddi in secondary schools across the country.
The 2025 edition continues this legacy, with 24 schools participating, each fielding both boys’ and girls’ teams, amounting to over 40 teams vying for top honors. The event not only fosters athletic competition but also emphasizes the importance of discipline, teamwork, and national sports development at the grassroots level.
All eyes will be on Matuga High School and Kololo High School, the defending champions in the boys’ and girls’ categories, respectively. Matuga High claimed overall victory in last year’s 4th edition, which was held at Kyadondo Secondary School, followed closely by Kyadondo Secondary School in second place and Mulusa Academy Wobulenzi in third.
On the girls’ side, Kololo High School dominated the tournament, with Kyadondo Secondary School once again securing the runner-up spot and Dynamic Secondary School Sonde finishing third. These teams will look to either defend or reclaim their places at the top as the level of competition intensifies in this year’s showdown.
This diverse representation underscores the widespread appeal and growing investment in kabaddi across Uganda’s secondary school system.
Beyond competition, the NSSKC serves as a vital scouting ground for rising stars in Ugandan kabaddi. With schools putting forth their best athletes, the tournament is expected to deliver memorable matches, fierce rivalries, and future national team prospects.
As the whistle gets ready to blow in Masindi, the excitement is palpable. Fans, students, teachers, and kabaddi lovers alike can expect six action-packed days of athletic excellence, unity, and the continued rise of one of Uganda’s fastest growing school sports.
