NIC Netball Club began their 2024 East African Netball Club Championship campaign in emphatic fashion, securing a commanding 58-22 victory over Tanzania’s Zimamoto Netball Club. The reigning champions wasted no time asserting their dominance, setting the tone for what they hope will be another title-winning run.

From the first whistle, NIC displayed exceptional control and coordination, surging to a 10-04 lead in the opening quarter. Their pace and precision on both ends of the court overwhelmed the Tanzanian side, with NIC continuing to build momentum as the game progressed. By halftime, they had stretched their advantage to 25-08, leaving Zimamoto with little room to mount a comeback.

The Ugandan giants maintained their rhythm in the second half, ending the third quarter at 40-13 before closing out the match with a resounding 58-22 scoreline.

NIC’s winning effort was driven by a balanced and experienced squad. Defensively, Aya Gloria stood firm at Goal Defense, supported by Racheal Nanyonga’s commanding presence at Goal Keeper. In the center, Margret Bagala orchestrated play with tactical precision, while Filbas Namulema and Zam Seera controlled the wings as Wing Attack and Wing Defense, respectively. On the offensive end, Maureen Nankya and Shakira Nassara led the scoring charge as Goal Shooter and Goal Attack.

The bench, comprising Privas Kayeny, Nassimu Mutesi, Sandra Nambirige, and Victo Nantumbwe, showcased NIC’s depth and readiness to rotate talent when needed.

The East African Netball Club Championship brings together top-tier clubs from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar in a contest for regional supremacy. Uganda is represented by four formidable teams: defending champions NIC Netball Club, WOB Netball Club, Police Netball Club, and Prisons Netball Club in both the men’s category and the ladies category.

With their opening victory, NIC has sent a clear message to their rivals as they remain the team to beat in this year’s championship, all eyes will be on the champions to see if they can maintain their winning form and defend their crown.
