Nepal 76/9 in 19.5 overs

Nepal won by 1 wicket

The match between Uganda’s Victoria Pearls and Nepal on match-day two of the Women’s Day Cup at Entebbe Cricket Oval ended in dramatic fashion, with Nepal securing a one-wicket victory.

The game came down to the second-to-last ball of the final over, with Uganda missing a crucial run-out chance that could have forced a super over.

In their previous match, the Victoria Pearls had defeated Hong Kong China by 8 wickets, but they were unable to build on that momentum.

Nepal won the toss and opted to field first, and Uganda struggled to score on a slow outfield that had been affected by yesterday’s rain.

Victoria Pearls’ captain, Janet Mbabazi, was dismissed LBW on the very first ball, putting immediate pressure on the batting lineup.

Nepal’s fielding was sharp and efficient, with quick run-outs and first-time pickups in the outfield.

Their clinical performance, combined with the sluggish outfield, made it difficult for Uganda to build partnerships.

Uganda reached just 50 runs after 15 overs, ultimately finishing with a modest total of 75/7 in 20 overs.

The team could have posted a higher score if the top order had capitalized on the fielding restrictions or attempted to accelerate during the final overs.

In their defense, the Victoria Pearls struggled to make early breakthroughs, with the first wicket falling in the 11th over.

However, they maintained pressure throughout, despite dropping a few catches.

The match came down to the final over, with Nepal needing 6 runs from 6 balls.

After a dramatic sequence, Uganda had a chance for a run-out that could have sent the game to a super over.

Unfortunately, Sarah Walaza didn’t react quickly to wipe off the bails and allowing Nepal to take the final run and seal the victory.

This win helped Nepal bounce back from their loss to Namibia the previous day.

Looking ahead, Uganda will face Namibia tomorrow, while Nepal will take on Hong Kong China.
