St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School Kitende made a bold statement in this year’s USSSA Boys’ National Football Championship after a commanding 3–0 victory over long-time rivals Kibuli SS, sealing their place in the semifinals.

The quarterfinal clash, played on Monday, featured two of Uganda’s football powerhouses—12-time national champions Kitende and 11-time winners Kibuli.

Kitende wasted no time asserting dominance, opening the scoring in the 13th minute through a calmly taken penalty by Claude Wakenge after a foul in the box.

Kitende doubled their lead midway through the second half when Denis Kisiriko showed great composure in the area, controlling the ball well before slotting it past the Kibuli goalkeeper in the 56th minute.

With Kibuli visibly shaken, Arafat Nkoola put the game beyond reach with a powerful header from a long cross delivered from the right wing, capping off a comprehensive performance.

Kitende had a chance to to even extend the lead late in the game, but Santos Agok squandered a golden opportunity, firing over the bar in the dying moments.

Elsewhere in Ngora, yesterday Bukedea Comprehensive School booked their semifinal spot in dramatic fashion, edging Kyaddondo SS 9-8 in a tense penalty shootout following a 1–1 draw in regular time.

Godfrey Ssekibengo scored for the Teso-based side during regulation, while coach Ronald Ssali guided his team through the high-pressure shootout.

Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) also made it to the last four after a narrow 1–0 victory over Mentor SS.

Richard Okello, a former captain of Uganda’s U-17 national team at the World Cup, was the match-winner with a crucial strike that secured his side’s progression.

In the final quarterfinal match, Budo SS edged past Uganda Martyrs Lubaga 1–0 to complete the semifinal lineup.

Kibuli and Kitende, both former East African champions—Kibuli lifting the title in Arusha in 2022 and Kitende reclaiming it in 2023 in Huye, Rwanda—have dominated the regional football scene in recent years.

However, it is Kitende who continues their journey this year.
