The Cricket Cranes managed to defend a modest total today at the Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground, securing a crucial victory over Tanzania.
This win keeps Uganda unbeaten in Group B of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Challenge League, with Uganda now standing as the only team yet to lose in the group.
Tanzania won the toss and opted to bowl on a pitch with some uneven bounces.
Uganda’s batting struggled throughout, and they were all out for just 148 runs in 41.1 overs.
At the break, many expected Tanzania to comfortably chase down the target, but Uganda’s bowlers had other plans.
Despite a lackluster performance from the rest of the lineup, Raghav Dhawani stood out, scoring 63 runs off 102 balls.
Tanzania’s Ally Kimote, however, was the standout bowler for his side, taking 4 wickets.
In the second innings, Uganda’s bowlers produced a spectacular performance.
Miyagi Juma was the star of the show, bowling 8.1 overs with an economy rate of just 2.08 while taking 6 wickets and was named the player of match.
Tanzania’s batting crumbled under pressure, and they were bowled out for just 89 runs in 29.1 overs, handing Uganda a 59-run victory.
This win marks Uganda’s fourth in the second round, following earlier victories over Bahrain by 52 runs, Singapore by 8 wickets, and Hong Kong by 76 runs.
Their game, against Italy, was abandoned due to rain.
With today’s win, Uganda finishes their second-round fixtures on a high note.
As the second round concludes tomorrow, Uganda leads the points table with 18 points from 10 games, followed by Italy with 14 points and Hong Kong with 12 points.
Uganda has completed all their second-round matches, while the crucial game between Italy and Hong Kong will determine the final standings.
Uganda’s captain, Riazat Ali Shah, is the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 374 runs, while Miyagi Juma leads the wicket tally with 18 scalps.
The third round of the Challenge League B will take place at a later date and venue, to be announced.
However, it is anticipated that Tanzania will host the third round later this year or very early next year
