Uganda will host Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria when the Group C nations face off for the group stages of the CHAN 2024. The matches will be played at the Mandela National Stadium (Namboole) in Kampala, bringing the local-based players continental football competition to Uganda for the first time.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed Uganda as a host for Group C in the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN), set to run from August 2 to August 30, 2025, despite retaining its original CHAN 2024 branding. Uganda will co-host the tournament alongside Kenya and Tanzania, with Zanzibar also hosting a group.
Namboole Stadium, which recently reopened after significant upgrades, will be the sole venue for Group C matches. The stadium will also host the third-place playoff, a major milestone in Uganda’s return to the continental football spotlight. The selection of Namboole underlines CAF’s confidence in Uganda’s infrastructural readiness and organizational capacity.
The renovated stadium now boasts a FIFA-standard playing surface, improved player and spectator facilities, and enhanced safety features—transforming it into a prime venue for elite competitions.
Group C:
Group C features a strong mix of footballing pedigree and regional diversity: Uganda (co-hosts), Niger, Guinea, South Africa, Algeria
These teams bring a wealth of CHAN experience and rising talent. Matches are expected to be tightly contested, with each side aiming for a top-two finish to advance to the knockout stages. For Uganda’s Cranes, the home advantage could prove pivotal as they seek to progress further than in previous editions.
Regional Co-Hosting: A New Era
CHAN 2024 will be the first edition hosted across four East African territories:

The government, in collaboration with FUFA, has already begun mobilizing resources to ensure smooth operations and crowd management at Namboole.
Group C fixtures are scheduled for release in the coming weeks, and preparations are underway for ticketing, team arrivals, and fan engagement campaigns. With high-quality opposition and strong home support, Uganda’s Group C matches are set to be among the most exciting of the tournament.
