Uganda the co-hosts of the CHAN 2024 will be making history as they host group C games at Mandela National Stadium Namboole.
Uganda will be up against Algeria in their first group game under the floodlights, head coach Morley Byekwaso has set his targets high as wants to make history in guiding the cranes out of the group stages for the first time on their seventh attempt.
“We need to do our best to make history, it’s the first time we are hosting CHAN here and this is our chance to make history as we fight to make it out of the group stages.” Said Morley Byekwaso the Uganda Cranes coach.
Uganda has featured in the previous six CHAN tournament but have failed to make it past the group stages on all occasions.
The head coach Morley Byekwaso sees ab opportunity playing from home soils as a major boost to his side making past the group stages.
“It is easily done at home the doing it away. The fans will be behind us, the media and the player also want to be part of the history as we make it out of the group stages.” He added.
Speaking ahead of their first game against Algeria, Byekwaso emphasized his player to have a serious mentality for a positive result as they take on one of the tournament favourites.
“The boys must have a serious mentality as we are home playing our first game, and it’s very tricky. Our group is a group of death, but we need to have a good start for us to be on the safe side,” he emphasized.
The squad is fully fit and mentally charged for the task ahead.
