The Confederation of African Football (CAF), is set to disburse monetary relief to its Member Associations (MAs) to support their activities in their respective states that have been hugely hit by the Coronavirus crisis.
In a meeting held online via Zoom, the Confederation’s emergency committee announced that a total of USD 10.8M would be released to the 54 MA’s on the continent as part of the relief plan to ease the financial burden on the African football community during these unheard-of-times

“Due to the fast-spread of Coronavirus, African MA’s have suspended all domestic competitions, which has brought about huge financial burdens on their shoulders,” CAF President Ahmad Ahmad said in the meeting before he added, “CAF has thus decided to wave the eligibility requirements to access the annual grants. So, all MA’s can benefit during this difficult period.”
At the moment, CAF is monitoring the situation surrounding the horrendous period of the Coronavirus crisis on the continent. With the guidance of the World Health Organization (WHO) and FIFA, CAF will announce the developments regarding the return of its competitions at the appropriate time.
The African football governing body has already released USD 3.5M to the teams that participated in the Champions League and Confederations Cup for the 2019/20 season.
The African interclub competitions were temporarily halted at the quarter-finals after the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.
