The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has confirmed that the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) has been postponed to August 2025.

Although the exact dates for the tournament have not been confirmed, CAF has announced that the event will take place in August this year.

In a statement, CAF explained that significant progress has been made in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda with regards to the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure and facilities. However, the organization’s technical and infrastructure experts have advised that more time is required to ensure that the infrastructure and facilities meet the necessary standards for hosting a successful tournament.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has expressed his gratitude to the heads of state of the three host countries for their commitment to delivering the required facilities. “I would like to express my deep gratitude to President William Ruto of Kenya, President Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda for their leadership, commitment, and the good progress that has been made in building and upgrading the stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure and facilities in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda for hosting a successful TotalEnergies African Nations Championship,” Dr. Motsepe said.

Despite the postponement, the draw for the tournament will still take place as planned in Nairobi, Kenya on January 15th, 2025, at 8:00 pm (EAT).

Dr. Motsepe is confident that the stadiums, training fields, hotels, hospitals, and other infrastructure and facilities will be at the requisite CAF standards for hosting a successful tournament in August 2025.
