We fully deserved to lift the title- Buddu Captain Pius Ssebulime

Pius Ssebulime was named Man of the match in the 2024 Masaza Cup Final between Buddu and Kyaggwe at the Mandela National Stadium on Saturday evening.

Ssebulime has been instrumental in Buddu’s journey to victory, Captaining the side and helping them clinch some vital wins along the way despite poor start.

In addition to that, the Captain also directly involved in goals this season scoring once, assisting 5 times and taking home 4 man of the match accolades the highlight being assisting the lone goal netted Walaga in the final against Kyaggwe.

After lifting the team’s third Masaza Cup title and first as Captain Ssebulime said his side fully deserved the title;

“I add again to the voices of many that we fully deserve to take this, God hasn’t forsaken us and I am thankful” he said

“Previously we have reached the finals and not won but this time round, we beat Kyaggwe because of experience” he continued

Adding that; “I want to thank my fellow players, coaches, managers and most importantly the fans who have carried us all the way”

“I also want to thank myself for all the efforts have put in, the sacrifices and much more”

When asked about his next move, Ssebulime concluded by saying;

“With God by my side, I hope to continue with a move to the top flight league In Uganda”

Buddu secured their third Masaza Cup title with a 1-0 victory over Kyaggwe debutants at the final.

In a fully packed Stadium, Mike Walaga scored Buddu FC’s only goal in the 22nd minute, with a great header off a Pius Ssebulime delivery.

For Kyaggwe despite dominating the game, they managed to create a couple chances till the final whistle but didn’t execute them well enough after a strategic method of laying back by Buddu.

The game was played in the presence of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi, and  National Unity Platform President Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu who excited the crowd inside the stadium.

This game marked Kyaggwe’s first final and at the same time Buddu’s third Masaza Cup win having won the trophy before in both 2016 and 2021.

In the third place play off, Nyanzi Shafik’s hat trick took Buweekula past Kyadondo who managed to pull one back.

Therefore the result meant Buweekula took on the third place.
