Bishop Stuart University (BSU) continued their strong campaign in the University Football League with a determined 2–1 away victory over Africa Renewal University on Thursday evening in Buloba. The result lifts BSU to second place in Group B with six points from three matches, strengthening their pursuit of a place in the knockout stages.

The match kicked off at a high tempo, with Africa Renewal nearly taking the lead in the fifth minute when Talemwa Mark made a crucial goal-line clearance to deny BSU an early opener. The hosts grew into the game shortly after, threatening through Kajubi and Agaba Aldo, but BSU goalkeeper Mubogi stood tall to keep the score level.

BSU punished the missed chances almost immediately. In the 14th minute, Ayebazibwe Victor broke the deadlock after latching onto a well-weighted through ball from Arode Ayesiga. Just two minutes later, Ayesiga turned scorer, unleashing a powerful long-range strike assisted by Gilbert Ahumuza, leaving Africa Renewal goalkeeper Mayinja with no chance.

With a 2–0 cushion, BSU continued to defend resolutely, as Mubogi denied further attempts from Kajubi and Ssempijja, ensuring the visitors went into halftime firmly in control.

Africa Renewal returned from the break with renewed urgency. Agaba Aldo threatened early in the half, forcing Mubogi into another smart save. Their persistence was rewarded in the 72nd minute when Ejemu Simon pounced on a defensive mishap to pull one back, following clever buildup play from Ssenyondo Kevin.

The goal energized the hosts, who piled on the pressure in the closing stages. Agaba, Mpandu Keith, and Isaac Agaba all came close to leveling the score, but Mubogi produced a series of outstanding saves to preserve BSU’s narrow lead.

Despite Africa Renewal’s sustained late pressure, Bishop Stuart held firm until the final whistle, securing a vital away victory.

The triumph sees BSU move into a strong position in Group B as the race for the knockout stage intensifies. Their blend of early attacking precision and disciplined defending proved decisive in Buloba.
