There would possibly be no heads turning if Ben Komakech’s name was mentioned in a room as one of the best basketball players Uganda has ever produced.

The 38 year old called time on a stellar playing career following his 9th season with City Oilers, all in which he emerged champion.

But ‘Koma’ as commonly known by his peers was not done yet, he stayed as a deputy to Andrew Tendo who had replaced long time serving Mandy Juruni as head coach.

But he was still too attached to just watch on and appeared on the team’s roster, stepping on court in crucial games and earning his 10th title.

Komakech could make a case as the most decorated player in the history of Ugandan basketball, his three titles with Power make him a 13 time National Basketball League Champion and only a few could Match up.

He has been announced as the women’s national team video analyst in a statement released by FUBA today naming Nick Natuhereza as new head coach of the Gazelles, replacing the Bosnian Goran Lojo, Nick will be assisted by Julius Lutwama.

The three make up Uganda’s Technical team as the ladies gear up for the FIBA Africa zone V qualifiers and preparations begin immediately tomorrow on Tuesday 21st January, 2025.
