Uganda’s U-19 national cricket team, the Baby Cricket Cranes, are gearing up to host the second edition of the Easter Youth ODI series from March 2nd to 8th at the renowned Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala.
This series will serve as a critical step in their preparation for the upcoming ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifiers, set to take place in Nigeria later this year.
The inaugural edition of the Easter Youth ODI series, held last year, saw Uganda triumph over Kenya U-19 in a thrilling final to claim the title.
This year, however, the competition will feature a new format with a tri-series, as both Rwanda and Kenya U-19 will not be participating.
Instead, Uganda will face off against Tanzania U-19 and Uganda Emerging in what promises to be a highly competitive tournament.
Emmanuel Isaneez, the U-19 head coach, emphasized the importance of the series, stating,
This series is vital for our preparations for the U-19 World Cup Qualifiers,” said Emmanuel Isaneez, the head coach of the Uganda U-19 team. “It gives our boys a chance to gain match fitness and refine our strategies before heading to Nigeria. We appreciate the support from Tanzania Cricket and Uganda A for making this possible.”

The Easter Youth ODI series is designed to provide Uganda’s young cricket stars with the opportunity to gain valuable match experience, fine-tune their skills, and build momentum heading into the continental qualifiers.
The change in venue from last year’s Jinja SS Cricket Oval to the iconic Lugogo Cricket Oval presents a new set of challenges and opportunities for the team.
The tournament will be a perfect stage for Uganda to experiment with different team combinations, assess their strengths, and evaluate their performance against regional rivals, particularly Tanzania U-19, a formidable side in East African cricket.
The six-day tournament will culminate in a final match between Uganda U-19 and Tanzania U-19.
Cricket fans and stakeholders are encouraged to show their support for the Baby Cricket Cranes during this crucial phase of their journey, as they aim to shine on the continental stage.
The Easter Youth ODI series is poised to be an exciting and pivotal moment for the Uganda U-19 team as they look to make a strong showing in the Africa Qualifiers and secure a spot at the ICC U-19 World Cup.
