The Uganda senior men’s national Basketball team, the Silverbacks has qualified for a third straight AfroBasket final.
This is after they defeated Morocco 77-65 on Thursday evening at the Sale Omnisports El Bouazzaoui, Sale in Morocco.
The Silverbacks came into this game looking for nothing other hand a victory to qualify and they did that in stule, leading the game in all the four quarter.
Debutant Arthur Kaluma stepped up on a crucial night for the Silverbacks, notching in 29 points to propel Uganda to qualification.
Big-man Ishmail Wainright also ha a double-double to finish the game with 12 rebounds and 11 points.
Uganda suffered an early scare as they were 5-0 in the first three minutes but they fought back to win the first quarter 20-10.
Morocco took the second quarter and closed the gap to o just a point lead at the end of the first half (32-31)
But, the Silverbacks did take the remaining two quarters to win the game 77-65 and qualify for the AfroBasket finals in Kigali, Rwanda due August 24 to September 5th.
Having sealed qualification, Uganda goes into Group D with Senegal, Cameroon and South Sudan.
This will be a third straight AfroBasket finals for the Silverbacks having also played at the 2015 and 2017 tournaments.
