The second round of the 2024/25 Finance Trust Bank FUFA Women Super League kicked off today with a thrilling encounter between Wakiso Hill and Amus College at the latter’s home ground in Kitende.

In a hard-fought match, Amus College managed to edge their hosts 1-0, thanks to a second-half goal from Edina Wanda.

Under the bright Saturday morning sunshine, both teams were determined to secure vital points, but it was Amus College that held firm and ultimately took the win.

Wakiso Hill came out strong in the first half, dominating possession and looking to break down Amus’s well-organized defense.

However, despite their pressure, the hosts could not find a way past Amus’s solid backline.

The closest Wakiso Hill came to scoring was in the 42nd minute when Shafiga Tamisi made a dazzling solo run, cutting past two defenders and unleashing a powerful shot.

Unfortunately for Wakiso, her effort went just inches wide of the crossbar.

Amus College took control in the second half, gradually asserting themselves in the game.

The breakthrough came in the 64th minute when Edina Wanda picked up the ball, raced past a defender, and rifled the ball into the back of the net, leaving the Wakiso Hill goalkeeper with no chance.

Wanda’s brilliant solo run and finish gave Amus the crucial lead.

Five minutes before the final whistle, Amus had a chance to double their advantage when Shalyne Opisa’s curling shot narrowly missed the target, but the 1-0 lead was enough for the visitors to hold on to.

Faridah Bulega’s Amus College side held their nerve and secured the three points, moving to 24 points on the league table, just one point behind leaders Kampala Queens FC.

Despite the loss, Wakiso Hill’s central defender Judith Mawuwa was named Player of the Match for her stellar performance at the back.

The defeat leaves Wakiso Hill still searching for their first win of the season, sitting at the bottom of the table with just five points from 12 matches.

Looking ahead, Amus College will face Rines SS WFC at home on Sunday, 9 February 2025, while Wakiso Hill will travel to face Lady Doves on the same day.

In other league action, She Makerere and Kawempe Ladies FC played to a goalless draw, and Tooro Queens triumphed 1-2 over Rines SS WFC in Wakiso.

The weekend’s matchday will conclude on Sunday with three more fixtures: Kampala Queens visiting Uganda Martyrs, She Maroons hosting Olila H/S WFC, and She Corporate FC welcoming Lady Doves to their new home in Jinja.
