Kevin Amuge starred with the ball as the Victoria Pearls kicked off their 2025 Victoria Series campaign with a dominant 7-wicket win over Canada at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

Winning the toss, Uganda elected to bowl first — a decision that paid off immediately.

Amuge bowled a tight opening over, then removed Vandana Mahajan and Jasmin Oldham in quick succession.

Supported by Consylate Aweko, Immaculate Nakisuuyi, and Naome Jane Amongin, Uganda applied relentless pressure. Run-outs added to Canada’s collapse, with only Amarpal Kaur (18) and Achini Perera (13) reaching double figures.

Canada were bowled out for 67 in 19 overs.

Amuge was the standout performer, taking 4 wickets for 17 runs in 4

While Nakisuyi (2/13), Amongin, and Sarah Akiteng each chipped in to complete a clinical bowling display.

In response, Uganda’s chase was steady.

Captain Janet Mbabazi and Esther Iloku opened the innings, with Iloku falling in the third over.

Nakisuuyi added 15 before her dismissal, while Rita Musamali contributed 9 before being dismissed with only 10 runs needed.

Mbabazi anchored the innings with a composed, unbeaten 37, sealing the win in 11.5 overs.

Amuge was deservedly named Player of the Match for her bowling spell.

Post-match, Mbabazi praised her team’s performance but emphasized the need to improve with the bat:

“We’re happy with the win, but we need to keep working on our batting.”

Canada’s captain Amarpal Kaur remained positive despite the loss:

“It wasn’t about the pitch. We just didn’t bat well. Conditions are good here, and we’re looking forward to bouncing back.”

Kevin Amuge, in her reaction, praised her teammates for their support in helping her win the accolade.

She expressed her hope to win more awards in the future and is looking forward to a successful series.
