Kabaddi, a dynamic and fast-paced contact sport that traces its roots back to Ancient India. It is governed internationally by the International Kabaddi Federation (IKF), established in 1950 as it sets the rules and regulations under which the sport is played.
In Uganda, the game is overseen by the Kabaddi Federation of Uganda (KFU), founded in 2017 and since its inception, KFU has been the driving force behind the promotion and regulation of Kabaddi in the country.
The federation organizes a range of events, including international tournaments for both men and women, as well as sub-junior, junior, and zonal competitions, all aimed at nurturing grassroots talent and expanding the game’s reach at the local level.
The launch of the Uganda Kabaddi Open League is a bold step forward to a fast growing sport nationally and giving players a regular, competitive platform. It also represents an opportunity for communities to come together in support of a sport that emphasizes agility, strength, and teamwork.
As the whistle blows on 6th July, the six teams will not only be vying for glory but also contributing to the rich narrative of Kabaddi’s journey in Uganda. The stage is set, the players are ready, and a new chapter in Ugandan sports is about to unfold.
