- Wakiso Giants vs Maroons – Kabaka Kyabaggu 4PM
- URA vs Bright Stars – Nakivubo Stadium 4PM
As URA FC prepare to host relegation-threatened Bright Stars at Nakivubo Stadium, head coach Alex Isabirye is keeping his squad focused, grounded, and hungry for consistency in the business end of the Uganda Premier League season.
Coming off back-to-back wins against Mbale Heroes and Mbarara City, the Tax Collectors are in buoyant form and eager to extend their winning streak to three matches. Isabirye, though, is under no illusions about the challenge ahead.
“We expect a tough game against Bright Stars because they are fighting for survival,” he said ahead of the Friday showdown.
“But we’re prepared. We’ve struggled to win back-to-back games this season, but we’re building momentum and hope to keep that going.”
That momentum is crucial as URA continue their climb up the table, hoping to stay within touching distance of the league’s top four. A win on home turf would also complete a league double over Bright Stars, having edged them 1-0 in the reverse fixture.
In form striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe is expected to lead the charge once again. The clinical forward has bagged 12 goals this season and is just two shy of current league top scorer Allan Okello. His sharpness in front of goal could be decisive, especially against a team fighting tooth and nail for survival.
Bright Stars, currently second from bottom, will be desperate for a result. Coach Ian Mutanda’s men showed signs of life in their recent 3-1 win over Police FC, a game in which striker Nelson Ssenkatuka scored a brace. The experienced frontman remains their biggest threat and will look to exploit any lapse in URA’s backline.
But Isabirye remains confident in his squad’s ability and growing cohesion: “We’re learning to control games better, and the players are beginning to understand each other more. If we stay disciplined, I believe we can get the result.”
As the stakes rise in both the title race and relegation battle, Friday’s clash promises to be more than just another fixture, it’s a test of form, desire, and survival instincts.
