The Uganda Men’s National Basketball Team, Silverbacks have been eliminated from the FIBA AfroBasket 2021.
The Silverbacks put up a spirited fight but lost 79-71 to Cape Verde in the quarterfinals game at the Kigali Arena on Thursday evening.
Uganda started slow on the block, but afterwards they adjusted well to lose 24-20.
Uganda then started the second with two quick three-pointers to take the games lead but Cape Verde retook the lead on tge way of going into the halftime leading by nine points (43-35).
The third was all about Cape Verde as they extended their lead to ten points going into last quarter.
In opening five minutes of the fourth, Uganda closed that gap to only three points and Cape Verde responded well to win the game by eight points (79-71).
Arthur Kaluma led the Uganda with 21 points while Ismhail Wainwright had 13 points on losing effort.
For Cape Verde, Walter Taverez had a double-double( 22 points and 15 rebounds) to lead his side to victory.
It is the end of the road for Uganda and will now wait for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers for their next competitive action.
For Cape Verde, they will face defending champions Tunisia in the semis.
