The Uganda Beach soccer team, the Sand cranes registered their first win at the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal after they defeated their East African neighbors Tanzania 4-3 in their second match at the tournament.

Goals from Ssimbwa Swaleh, Emmanuel Alex Wasswa and a brace from Isma Kawawulo ensured Uganda walked away with all the important three points against Tanzania.

Jareph Rajab Juma netted a brace while Stephanie Wallis Napunale added the other for Tanzania in the losing effort.

After losing their first game at the tournament to hosts Senegal 5-1, Uganda have now garnered their maiden win in their debut appearance at the tournament.

With that win, Uganda sit second on the log and will need Senegal to defeat Tanzania in the last group A game to determine their fate in the group. The group earlier had four teams but DR Congo dropped out due to unavoidable circumstances.

Speaking after the game, Sand Cranes Assistant Coach Bashir Mutyaba says the team embarked on correcting the mistakes in the first game for a win.

“We thank God for this win, we played a team that was fresh as for us we had a game against Senegal on Sunday and the players were a bit fatigued” Bashir Mutyaba said before adding;

“But we thank God that we managed to correct our mistakes from the Senegal game for a win against Tanzania.”

“We now pray that Senegal defeats Tanzania for us to qualify to the semi finals”
